The Graça Machel Scholarship Programme

Canon Collins Trust currently manage a scholarship programme on behalf of Mrs Graça Machel. The aim is to provide female students with scholarships that will equip them to take up leadership roles for the benefit of their community, nation and region.

Applications to study in the UK through the Graça Machel scheme can be made on the standard UK application form and sent to the UK office.

Applications to study in South Africa through the Graça Machel scheme must be made on the specific application form and sent to the UK office (NB this is different from our standard scholarship scheme to study in South Africa, for which applications should be sent to the South Africa office).

Warwick Music Scholarships

A number of Music Scholarships are available each year, to encourage talented musicians to make Warwick their first choice for music-making and for a degree. There is no music degree at Warwick and hence these Scholarships are open to students from all subjects. We currently have choral, keyboard and instrumental scholarships. Many Warwick music scholars have continued their musical education at colleges and conservatoires in the UK and abroad after obtaining a first degree in an unrelated discipline. Scholarship awards are currently £450 for each year of residence at Warwick, with an additional subsidy on music tuition fees.

The Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competitive auditions held each year on the first and second Monday and Tuesday in the March before arrival at Warwick. Applications must be made on the appropriate Music Centre form before 10th February in the proposed calendar year of entry. Please note that you do not need to have received an offer from the University before applying for a scholarship - providing that you have applied to the University, you can apply for a scholarship. Applicants will be advised as soon as possible after the closing date if they are to be invited for audition. In preparing the timetable, account is taken of the distances candidates need to travel.

Organ Scholarships

The University also offers an organ scholarship in partnership with the Parish Church of All Saints in Leamington Spa. It is an award of £450 per year and the application procedure is the the same as with the other scholarships. Auditions are scheduled in consultation with the church, the audition panel and the candidate. Further information is available on request.

Scholarship Auditions

The audition usually lasts around twenty minutes, and is designed to allow candidates to demonstrate their potential as well as present level of achievement, and in particular their likely contribution to the musical activities of the Music Centre. The auditions take place in the Warwick Arts Centre's Butterworth Hall.

H J King Memorial Scholarships for Music

These scholarships are named after Henry John King, who was the second organist and Master of the Choristers of St Alban’s Chapel. He was responsible for the design of the present Chapel organ, and served the school from 1922 to 1932. Henry John King was a noted musician and was much in demand as an adjudicator of eisteddfodau etc. Above all, his lasting contribution to The Southport School was the establishment of a boys’ choir in St Alban’s Chapel. This tradition has continued to the present day. The value of each scholarship is the remission of one third of the annual school tuition fees, as well as tuition fees for a weekly one hour lesson on a nominated instrument. The H J King Scholarship is offered to students entering the school in Year 8 and above. No scholarship fee applies.

Some scholarships are unusual, some are weird and wacky, and others are just strange but they all have something in common, they provide free money for college and are often easy to get.

When it comes to funding a college education, easy scholarships are the best possible way that you can earn money for school. What exactly is an easy scholarship? Read on to find out.

Simply put, easy scholarships are ones that you get for just being yourself. They can be split up into 3 different categories: contests, personal characteristics, and talents or skills.

Contests. Some of these can be unusual and even strange or downright weird. But it is these unique and wacky scholarships from contests that are sometimes the easiest and definitely the most fun to apply for. The easy scholarships that we are talking about here include the typical essay ones such as personal narratives, fictional stories, poetry, or a preselected topic to write about. But there are also some odd and unusual contests that can earn you some cash for school such as invention competitions, video making, and duct tape creativity.

Personal Characteristics. It does not get any more simple than this. You can get scholarships for just having a certain trait and applying for the award. There is money for college for students who are left handed, tall or short, have red hair, a twin, a triplet, certain last names, nationality, family background, and where you are from. Talk about very easy scholarships!

Talents or Skills. I bet you didn’t know that you can earn some tuition money based on your interests and hobbies. You absolutely can. In addition to traditional athletic scholarships for soccer, baseball, football, basketball, hockey, track and field, cross country running, swimming, volleyball, softball, and tennis that we all hear about, there are scholarships available as well for bowling and golf caddies. Knitting and marble shooting are just a couple of the skills that can earn you some easy school money.
